Every parent wants the best for their baby but figuring out what is best can be a mine field.  Something as simple as choosing the best baby shampoo, baby lotion and baby powders can affect the health of your child.  Recent studies have shown that these products quite often have Phthalates.  Phthalates can be passed on through the placenta and have been linked to asthma; genital malformations and low sperm count in boys and animal studies suggest a link to liver and kidney cancers.

Why are dangerous chemicals like Phthalates in our baby products?

Phthalates are added to lubricate and soften other substances, as well as help lotion soften and penetrate the skin.  Phthalates are also used in baby lotions and baby shampoos to help the fragrance last longer. A study published in the Journal of Pediatrics February 2008 “Baby Care Products: Possible Sources of Infant Exposure.” concluded that: “Phthalate exposure is widespread and variable in infants. Infant exposure to lotion, powder, and shampoo were significantly associated with increased urinary concentrations of monoethyl phthalate, monomethyl phthalate, and monoisobuty phthalate, and associations increased with the number of products used. This association was strongest in young infants, who may be more vulnerable to developmental and reproductive toxicity of phthalates given their immature metabolic system capability and increased dosage per unit body surface area.”

How to avoid harmful products & where to find the good ones

The logical answer to protecting your child from these chemicals is to read the label before using anything on baby’s delicate skin.  Unfortunately, the label may or may not indicate the presence of toxic chemicals.  Often it is disguised behind the word ‘Fragrance’ or they do not necessarily disclose the presence of chemicals. The good news is that there are alternatives to the mainstream products such as the growing Organic Baby Product market. 1. Educate yourself about the chemicals that occur in many Baby Products.  “Children are uniquely vulnerable to phthalate exposures given their hand-to-mouth behaviors, floor play, and developing nervous and reproductive systems” says Sheela Sathyanarayana, acting assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Washington and lead author of the study “Baby Care Products: Possible Sources of Infant Exposure.”
2. Check the labels and avoid products that contain
* DBP (dibutyl phthalate)
* DNOP (di-n-octyl phthalate)
* DiNP (diisononyl phthalate)
* DEP (diethyl phthalate)
* BBzP (benzyl butyl phthalate)
* DEHP (di 2-ethylhexl phthalate)
* DiDP (diisodecyl phthalate)
* DnHP (di-n-hexyl phthalate)
* DMP (dimethyl phthalate)
* DnOP (di-n-octylphthalate)
* Bisphenol A (BPA) is another plasticizer.

Caution: If you do not find the above chemicals on the label it does not necessarily mean that  the product is chemical free.   

3. Consider the product packaging as the container can leach phthalates into the product.
4. Change buying habits and source a retailer that only carries organic baby products – this will take much of the guess work out of protecting your baby and also sends a message to the corporations that as people become more conscious of the dangers around early and prolonged exposure to toxic chemicals, they will have to reformulate their products or risk losing business.

New Aircraft at El Al

In 2007, El Al purchased two new Boeing 777-200 airliners. The 777-200 is the largest twin engine aircraft in the world, and has improved fuel economy. The purchase represents the company’s strategy of growth, and its commitment to the long-haul destinations, such as the LA flights to Tel Aviv. One of the aircrafts has been named Sderot, after the southern Israeli city that is under constant rocket and mortar shell fire from the nearby Gaza Strip. During his recent mission, Mayor Villaraigosa traveled to Sderot in order to show his solidarity with its residents.

Romans tells us plainly God has not cast away Israel. This is speaking plainly of the nation of Israel, not spiritual Israel.

Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 a God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew.

Romans warns those who were grafted in [gentiles by faith, who became part of spiritual Israel] that they should not be haughty.

Romans 11
13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Romans tell us of the blindness of Israel towards the Messiah. This will continue until the “fulness of the Gentiles has come in”.

Romans 11
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Romans 11
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Romans tell us all Israel will be saved as it is written.

Romans 11
26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

The Gospel is the power of God unto Salvation to the Jew first, then the Gentile [Greek]!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

The Jew will join with the Gentile, by faith, in Gods kingdom.

Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

The nature of the Jew and the gentile, both are brought to God the same way. Neither one has it over the other, for all are under sin. But God loves them all, and through Yeshua {Jesus, Iesous} he will save them all.

Romans 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Romans 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

Romans 3:29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

This is why I pray for Israel’s Salvation, I also pray for the peace of Jerusalem. I know however, that peace will only come to Jerusalem when Yeshua HaMassiach will arrive.

I urge, therefore all men to pray for this. the Salvation of the Jew and the Gentile. For we have brothers that are both Jew and Gentile. The Gentiles are all races other than the Jews.

The severity of the criticism heaped on Israel’s Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, and the Defence Minister Amir Peretz by the Winograd Commission demands the immediate calling of fresh elections to allow the Israeli electorate to have its say on whether the Government still retains the public’s confidence.

The Government’s culpability did not start and end with the Second Lebanon War.

The writing was on the wall long before the Winograd Commission delivered its’ scathing interim Report.

Any idea of playing musical chairs by simply replacing Mr. Olmert and Mr Peretz must be resisted .

Every member of the Government must accept responsibility for the precarious position in which Israel finds itself today.

Mr Olmert’s unqualified support for two States between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean has not got off the ground despite the active involvement of America, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations.

The Government seems incapable of formulating an alternative policy to break the deadlock such as proposing negotiations for the division of the West Bank between Jordan and Israel within the context of their present peace treaty. The best it has managed to do is express interest in discussing the 2002 Arab League Peace Initiative, which had already been comprehensively rejected by previous Governments.

Gross errors of judgement in pursuing its policy of unilateral withdrawal such as the abandonment of the physical control of the Philadelphi corridor between Gaza and Egypt and the failure to stop the indiscriminate rocketing of Israeli civilian population centres from Gaza have resulted in Israel’s national and security interests being placed in great danger.

The Government has witnessed the rise of a Hamas dominated Government in Gaza, the unrestrained arming of myriad terrorist groups and the entry of Al Qaida into the conflict in the region. It has sat on its haunches and done little of any consequence in any of these areas.

Israel’s Arab enemies now believe that further unilateral withdrawals by Israel can be achieved by the continued use of violence, forcing Israel to retreat to more vulnerable borders.

The Government’s attempt to negotiate with Palestinian Authority President Abbas to the exclusion of Prime Minister Haniyeh has failed miserably. Photo opportunities at bi-weekly meetings are a waste of time and will not bring tangible results.

Contemplating the release of 1400 prisoners, many of them murderers, for the return of one soldier, indicates the sense of hopelessness in Government circles. Waiting in the background are the decisions that will then have to be taken to procure the release of two more soldiers captured by Hezbollah.

Surrounded by countries that do not recognise its’ existence and threatened to be nuked by Iran and attacked by Syria, Israel’s Government appears to be bankrupt of any effective policies to counter all the threats facing the country at this time.

Add to this a number of corruption scandals alleged against Government members and one gets a very depressing picture about this Government’s ability to govern at one of the most critical stages in Israel’s 59 year history.

The Government needs to come clean, clearly articulate its policies in all of these areas and go to the polls to obtain a mandate to implement them from the Israeli electorate.

Clearly the resignation of Mr Olmert and Mr Peretz will solve nothing. Clinging to power at any cost without facing up to the electorate is the last thing Israel needs at this critical juncture.

Only fresh elections can reverse the downhill slide into which Israel is rapidly descending. Surely any other course of action at this time is a sell-out and a subversion of the democratic process.
