14 People Killed in Clashes Six Hours
Xalapa, — As many as 14 people, including two soldiers, were killed in a six-hour shootout between Mexican security forces and gunmen in the state of Veracruz in the east of the country on Thursday night, the military said on Friday (14 / 1 / 2011).
A caller who did not mention his name has warned soldiers to watch a house on the outskirts of the city of Xalapa, capital of the state.
"The shooting led to 12 alleged attackers and two soldiers were killed," said military spokesman Gen. Rene Carlos Aguilar told a news conference.
Deadly attacks allegedly committed by the drug mafia groups has increased in certain areas in Mexico in recent years, especially on the border with the United States.
As many as 34,612 people have been killed since President Felipe Calderon launched a war against the drug mafia.
