SEOUL, — Japanese coast guard on Thursday (13/01/2011), says it has arrested a South Korean fishing boat captain (South Korea) after refusing orders to stop as they are found in waters by the Japanese regarded as its exclusive economic zone.

Some South Korean officials said earlier that South Korea and Japan will conduct a joint investigation about whether the fishing boat that violated Japanese waters near islands disputed the same distance from both countries.

Last year, Japanese Chinese fishing boat captain arrested after crashing into the Japanese patrol ship near disputed islands between Tokyo and Beijing. Relations between the two countries tightened after the incident.

Tokyo recognition of sovereignty on the islands also claimed by Seoul, known as Dokdo by South Korea and Takeshima by Japan, in the past has sparked protests in South Korea, who still remember the bad memories of colonization of the Korean Peninsula in 1910-1945 by the Japanese.

"We are still conducting investigations and are still waiting until the results come out. Kru ship admitted that due to operational damage, vessel so distorted," said the South Korean coast guard spokesman.

South Korean news agency, Yonhap, said the patrol boat involved in the deadlock, but officials from the Japanese and South Korean relieve report. Yonhap said the incident involving the fishing vessel weighs 29 tons and occurs in waters about 70 kilometers southwest of the disputed islands.
